2. Teeth Whitening
According to the EU Cosmetics Directive (COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 2011/84/EU), tooth whiteners with less than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide may be sold on the open market in the European Union and are freely available to consumers. This is supported by the safety reports carried out by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP), which considers that products containing up to 0.1% do not pose a risk to the health of the consumer; products containing between 0.1%-6% hydrogen peroxide content may only be sold to dentists, and only under certain conditions; and tooth whitening products with hydrogen peroxide levels higher than 6% hydrogen peroxide are BANNED in the European Union, even for dentists.
* Some EU countries may have additional requirements for tooth whitening so we recommend that you also check with your local Health Authorities.

Teeth darken in many ways and for many reasons. They can be stained yellow, orange, brown, gray or even black, depending on the cause. Here are 10 common causes of tooth discoloration.
External Factors
#1 Foods and drinks
Coffee, tea, colas, wines and certain foods such as potatoes, tomatoes, citrus fruits, berries and dark colored sauces.
#2 Smoking
Smoking or chewing tobacco.
Internal factors
#3 Side effects from some medications
Antihistamines, antidepressants and high blood pressure drugs. Tetracycline and doxycycline antibiotics during permanent tooth development (before the age of 8). Maternal use of tetracycline antibiotics during the second half of pregnancy may result in discoloration of the baby’s future permanent teeth.
#4 Medical treatments
Chemotherapy, and head and neck radiation.
#5 Illness
Diseases affecting enamel and dentin. Certain infections in pregnant mothers can cause discoloration in the baby by affecting enamel development.
#6 Aging
As you age, the surface of the enamel wears away, revealing the dentin’s natural, yellow color. Additionally, over the years your teeth accumulate more stains and tartars.
#7 Dental work
Procedures requiring certain dental materials, such as silver amalgam restorations can produce a grayish-black cast to teeth.
#8 Genetics
Some lucky people have naturally bright white teeth, while others have a naturally off-white / yellowish tint.
#9 Excessive intake of fluoride
An overexposure to fluoride (fluorosis), such as high fluoride levels in drinking water or from excessive use of fluoride oral care products as a child.
#10 Mild tooth trauma
A fall or any other injury that damages the nerves or chips/cracks the teeth.
Most people will benefit from tooth whitening, but there are a number of exceptions and results may vary depending on the type of tooth discoloration. See question “What causes teeth staining and discoloration”.
The best candidates include tea and coffee drinkers, smokers, and those with stains acquired by dietary habits (external factors). This type of tooth discoloration affects the enamel, or surface of the tooth, and can easily be removed by tooth whitening. Teeth stained by external factors typically have a yellowish tint.
On the other hand, those with stains that affect the inner structure of the teeth (internal factors) may not be good candidates for tooth whitening. These stains, which typically appear grayish or grey-brown, are usually caused by disease or medication.
Please note that tooth whitening doesn’t work on artificial dental work such as veneers, crowns, caps, fillings, bridges and dentures.
If you wear braces please wait until these are removed before using any tooth whitening products to avoid uneven whitening.
If your teeth are crooked, make sure the gel is in touch with the entire surface of your teeth to prevent uneven results.
It varies. Tooth whitening will not necessarily make everyone’s teeth snow white, but for sure it will make them whiter.
As a matter of fact, our products have been tested on their efficacy by independent testing bodies and were found to give an average bleaching efficacy of 3.6 shades, with testers yielding up to 7 shades after 1 single treatment. Feel free to ask us about the independent report on the efficacy of our products.
In any case, it’s best to have realistic expectations and understand that tooth whitening will not change the natural color of teeth. What it will do is remove stains and restore teeth back to their original color.
Results can last up to 1-2 months. For longer lasting results, avoid dark colored foods and drinks and avoid smoking.
The other factor is how porous your teeth are. The more porous, the quicker the teeth can get stained again.
To maintain the results longer and to keep a nice, bright smile, we recommend to use an after-care product at home.
Our products for the beauty industry release less than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide, in accordance with the EU Cosmetics Directive. The key whitening ingredient in our gels is sodium percarbonate, an eco-friendly chemical which decomposes into oxygen, water and natural soda ash when it comes into contact with saliva. It’s highly effective, gentle and safe.
For dentists, we offer up to 6% hydrogen peroxide / 16% carbamide peroxide.
No. Our products don’t generate tooth sensitivity. Generally, tooth sensitivity is only experienced with highly concentrated peroxide gels. At most you will feel the mintiness of the gel, thanks to the peppermint oil that has been included to the formula to give you a nice, fresh taste.
Even our peroxide gels for dentists don’t cause tooth sensitivity due to the low peroxide concentration.
But what actually causes tooth sensitivity, you may wonder? Tooth dehydration. Peroxide gels penetrate the enamel to reach the discolored molecules inside the teeth, and while the pores of the enamel are open teeth lose essential minerals and hydration, leading to tooth dehydration and causing tooth sensitivity. Gels that release less than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide, however, do not penetrate the enamel, but rather work on the surface of the teeth, eliminating any potential sensitivity problems.
No. There is no damage to the tooth enamel.
